MTV EMA Style Diaries: Nicki Minaj (1)

When it comes to personal style, it's fair to say that Nicki Minaj doesn't really do subtle. Since she arrived on the pop scene in 2010, Nicki has consistently been an ambassador for colour; lots and lots of colour. She's a sugar coated Barbie princess, but one with the ability to spit rhymes, while wearing pink pom-poms. Her hairstyle changes with every outing, switching between dip dye green and cotton-candy curls to full, rainbow unicorn coiffure. Manish Arora, Mark Fast and Versace are some of Nicki's preferred designers, catering for her larger-than-life performance style. She was one of the first to wear the pale blue, crystal-heavy unitard by Mark Fast.

Considering her obsession with all things dolly girl, it was fitting that Mattel captured Nicki's likeness in plastic form, creating a one-off Barbie version of Minaj herself, complete with baby pink hair and an enormous tulle gown. As an ambassador for M.A.C. Cosmetics, Nicki fronts the Viva Glam campaign and has a Girl Friday lipstick named in her honour. She is a frequent Fashion Week fixture, most notably perching next to Anna Wintour at the Carolina Herrera A/W12 show, with Nicki wearing a platinum Marie Antoinette wig and neon bobble costume in orange, lime green and hot pink. Apparently Wintour sent her an autographed photo of their front row moment together, writing on it "we match!". If Nicki's style get's the approval of the Editrix of US Vogue, who are we to argue?
